Project and Program Management

This is a subject that will be organized by a large company. Project and program management can be split into two sections; basically a program will encompass many different projects that a company has. An example of this would be in a company that was awarded the building of five train stations, each station would be a different project but they would all come under one single program. Another big difference is that programs do not have a start and finish date where as projects nearly always have some sort of schedule that must be adhered to.

Project Program

This is usually set up by an experienced manager who will typically possess a doctorate in civil engineering. He will liaise with other team/company members and set up a template that can be used and adapted for the various projects on hand. He or she will also rely on the information and expertise from project managers involved in various projects. The Project Program involves the set up of a system, company ways of doing things and company policies regarding health and safety, costing and risk assessment. Project and programming management will ensure that all aspects involved in making successful projects completion are considered and addressed. At the end of the day the program manager carries the most responsibility for a company to be successful in the financial world; his or her work will be judged on the project and management system that they have set up.

Project Programming

The project programs will adhere to the programming system set up in any company, this will involve everything to do with any given project, from resourcing material to ensuring dates when plasterers or electricians are allowed on site. The programming will encompass the solutions for a lot of the problems that most project managers will face.
This is the high end of the construction industry, and the people involved at this level have to be experienced university graduates or doctorates. Programming is not an easy thing to achieve but when done in a professional manner can and will save a company a lot of money and time. Project and program management are there to ensure that the wheels are greased and the various projects are carried out in a safe and profitable manner, because at the end of the day everyone from the client to the contractor wants the job to be done in not only a safe way, with everything achieved, but also under budget.
